Is Your Condition Treatable With NANO?

Back Institute specializes in endoscopic treatment of a wide range of spinal conditions — without the damage of traditional open surgery. Most patients are surprised to learn they're ideal candidates.

    🔵
    Lumbar / Cervical

    Herniated Disc

A tear in the outer fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc allows the soft central portion to bulge out, pressing on nerves and causing pain, numbness, or weakness. This is frequently posterior in nature and can result in severe pain even without nerve root compression.

    🟣
    Lumbar

    Spinal Stenosis

Narrowing of the main spinal canal that compresses spinal nerves. Sometimes caused by bone growth, ligament tissue growth, or significant disc bulge. Disc components causing stenosis may be treatable with our nano non-traumatic access approach. For severe spinal stenosis, decompression may require an 8 mm small endoscopic approach.

    🔴
    Lumbar

    Sciatica

Pain caused by compression or irritation of spinal nerve roots giving rise to the sciatic nerve. Pain is felt in the lower back, buttock, and leg. May include numbness, muscular weakness, pins and needles, and difficulty controlling the leg.

    🟠
    Lumbar / Cervical

    Degenerative Disc Disease

Age-related wear on spinal discs causing chronic low back pain that sometimes radiates to the hips, pain in the buttocks or thighs while walking, and sporadic tingling or weakness. Can also cause chronic neck pain radiating to shoulders, arms, and hands.

    🟡
    Lumbar / Cervical

    Bulging Disc

A condition where the outermost layers of the annulus fibrosus are still intact but can bulge when the disc is under pressure. This can result in the release of inflammatory chemical mediators causing severe pain, even without nerve compression.

    🟤
    Lumbar / Cervical

    Bone Spurs

Bony projections (osteophytes) that form along joints due to arthritis. Bone spurs on the spine can impinge on nerves leaving the spine, causing pain in upper and lower limbs and numbness or tingling in hands and feet.

    🟢
    Lumbar / Cervical

    Pinched Nerve (Radiculopathy)

One or more nerve roots are affected and do not work properly, resulting in pain, weakness, numbness, or difficulty controlling specific muscles. Pain may manifest in extremities through referred pain — a neck impingement can cause forearm pain.

    🟣
    Lumbar / Cervical

    Foraminal Stenosis

Narrowing of the neural foramina — the openings or doorways through which spinal nerves leave the spinal canal. Can be narrowed by disc herniations, spurs from vertebral body margins, or spurs from facet joints, compressing individual nerve roots.

    🔴
    Lumbar

    Failed Back Surgery Syndrome

Persistent pain following previous back surgery. Contributing factors include residual or recurrent disc herniation, persistent post-operative pressure on spinal nerves, scar tissue, and altered joint mobility. If there is nerve root compression, we can treat it directly.

    🟠
    Cervical

    Neck Pain & Cervical Disc

Cervical herniation or stenosis causing neck pain, headaches, and arm numbness or weakness. Our endoscopic anterior cervical discectomy can be performed without fusion through an opening as small as two millimeters.

    🔵
    Lumbar / Cervical

    Prolapsed Disc

Similar to a herniation, involving a tear in the outer fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc that allows the soft, central portion to bulge out. This tear can result in the release of inflammatory chemical mediators which may directly cause severe pain, even without nerve root compression.

    🟤
    Lumbar / Cervical

    Radiculopathy

A description of a problem in which one or more nerves are affected and do not work properly, resulting in pain, weakness, numbness, or difficulty controlling specific muscles. Pain manifests through referred sensation along extremities.

    🟢
    Lumbar / Cervical

    Slipped Disc

An informal term for disc herniation involving a tear in the outer, fibrous ring of an intervertebral disc that allows the soft, central portion to bulge out beyond the damaged outer rings, potentially compressing spinal nerves and causing pain.

    🟡
    Lumbar / Cervical / Thoracic

    Back Pain

Pain felt in the back that usually originates from the muscles, nerves, bones, joints or other structures in the spine. Can be acute or chronic, localized or radiating, and may accompany weakness, numbness, or tingling. Approximately nine of ten adults experience back pain at some point.
